- Found near hot springs in volcanic cavities and sedimentary rock
    
 - Has tendency to lose water that is in it; fractures easily, for no apparent reason
    
 - Believed to render wearer invisible when not desired to be seen
    
 - Fire in stone can symbolize sunrise, sunset, or moonrise
    
- And is connected with powers of the sun, moon and fire
 
     - Was considered a noble stone in Rome; part of crown jewels in France
    
- Also in the Imperial cabinet in Vienna
 
     - Considered unlucky in most English-speaking countries
    
- But considered precious in Northwest
 
     - Some stones lose fire when exposed to water; others, if not exposed to water
