1.3.1 John the Revelator's vision (Rev 4:5 NIV)
- From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder.
- Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing.
- These are the seven spirits of God.
- Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.
- various translations refer to these seven as spirits, torches, lamps, or eyes of God.

1.4.1 John the Revelator's vision (Rev 4:4-11 NIV)
- Around the throne were 24 thrones where 24 elders stood
- Elders clad in white with golden crowns
- Thrones for the elders in a circle about the throne
- Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor
- And thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever,
- The 24 elders fall down before him who lives for ever and ever
- They lay their crowns before the throne and say:
- You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power
- For you created all things, & by your will they were created & have their being.

- 12 patriarchs of Judaism
- 12 apostles of Christianity
