- In spring everything is new and fresh
- Earth comes alive in all directions

- Cover previously blank landscape with brilliant displays of color

- Their changed surfaces are exposed to the mild sun
- Animals begin to give birth to their young
- Begin to scamper all voer the countryside
- Search for fresh plants of spring for food to help them grow
- Air is alive as insect people hatch
- Begin to fly about their business
- Sing songs the Great Spirit has taught them
- With all the new life upon her, Earth Mother is illuminated
- All life shows the wisdom that allows it to continue

- So it is with each dawn when the sun climbs above the horizon
- Illuminates the landscape of whatever season it is
- Sun causes all of the children of earth to awaken
- To get up to greet the new day with its fresh promise
- The old ones say that the sun gives a special wisdom
- To those humans who get up to greet its first rays
- At the dawning, it is the time to take the knowledge of the spirit
- Received in sleep and turn it outward
- To guide your steps through the new day that has come
2.1.7.3 Youth
- Youth is the time when everything is fresh and new
- When humans can see the universe in a raindrop
- And spend hours looking at teh beauty of a blad of grass
- Watch an infant stare at a tree and you'll know the power of Wabun
- Take a toddler for a walk through the woods and you'll see even more
- The eyes of the young are not covered with the cynical blinders
- That make many miss the little beauties of life
- Coming as they do, from the infinite land of the stars
- They still retain more of the wisdom that the Great Spirit imparts to all
- As they begin their journey on the Earth Mother
- In their wisdom, they don't know the limitations of time
- They don't feel the threat of death
- To them, each moment is as fresh as the first sunbeam touching a drop of dew
- Youth is the time of experiencing everything as a first
- It is a time of swimming in the stream of pure energy
- Unhampered by the limitations of age, or of fears
- It is the time when vision is expanded, like that of the eagle
- When people see as if from a high place

- The power of Wabun is straightforward
- It is the power of illumination possible for all of earth's children
- If they do not block it from coming
- It is the power of enlightenment that comes when we know our proper place in the universe
- Our unity with all of our relations
- And the love that has powered the Creation from its beginnings
- It is the power of the morning glory opening its petals to the rays of the sun
- It is the power of the mist riding from the river
- Revealing the clear water beneath
- It is the power of the birds singing to the dawn
- It is the power of the sun's first rays coming over the horizon
2.1.7.5 Golden Eagle
- The animal associated with the East is the eagle
- The highest flying of the winged creatures
- Because of his ability to fly so high
- The eagle is as close to the sky's realm of the spirit
- As any of earth's children can be
- For this reason the old ones always used the feathers of the eagle
- When they made prayers that they wished the Great Spirit to hear
- They used eagle feathers in their prayer markers and in their headdresses
- They prayed that the eagle woudl help them send their prayers to the spirit
- They prayed that the eagle would help them to see clearly as he does
- So they could have illumination and wisdom
- The eagle of Wabun is the golden eagle
- Whose feathers are the color of the rising sun

- The colors of Wabun are the red and gold of the rising sun
- Red is the color of vital energy
- Gold is the color of illumination, wisdom and enlightenment

- The Budding Trees Moon, The Frogs Return Moon and The Cornplanting Moon
- Those born under these moons
- And those passing through these places as they travel around the wheel
- They will have the strengths of Wabun, the power of the East
- The people of the moons of Wabun represent the fresh energy of the spring
- Which works miracles on the face of the earth
- The people of these totems usually use their powers to work with things of the earth
- Rather than in the realms above
- The earth is one of their proper places
- And their energy is necessary to make changes on this planet
- However these folks have the ability to reach to the realms beyond those of earth
- In a natural and intuitive way
- And to bring the lessons of these realms into the work that they are doing here

- And the possibility of bringing enlightenment to themselves and those they touch
- To work well with the other realms, they need to learn to control their vital energy
